About

I started my textile journey in west Wales, surrounded by beautiful countryside and a rich wool producing heritage. Having started knitting at a young age my surroundings spurred on my love of textiles and I undertook a degree in textile design at Carmarthen School of art. Here it was confirmed it was no longer a passion but an obsession and I spent three happy years experimenting with a variety of different techniques and materials.

Anything from growing my own biomaterials to incorporating e-textiles was explored, but always I returned to knit, weave and spinning focusing on the raw wool materials the UK has to offer. After successfully completing my degree and winning a few design competitions along the way, I was invited to undertake an MA at the Royal College of Art.

At the RCA I continued my exploration of all things wool but now with much more of a purpose to get my activist views across through this fantastic medium. Textiles and the fashion industry produce more waste than any other industry and I didn't want to be part of this fast fashion fallacy. My mission was much more about engaging people back to the roots of where a textile comes from, how it is made, and who is behind it.

Today, having finished my Masters and set up my studio in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham, I focus on making heirloom pieces that reconnect people with what they use and wear. I champion British wool in the pieces I make, highlighting the rich and diverse qualities of the many breeds of sheep we have in the UK.

The collection I am currently producing is influenced by the past and present of Birmingham, reflecting a place known for being the city of 1000 trades.
